The long-pending proposal for an international airport at Chennammana Kittur has regained momentum, with Karnataka’s Public Works and Belagavi District In-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi recently urging the Union Aviation Minister to take action on the matter.
The idea of establishing an international airport in North Karnataka has been under consideration for several years. Prominent figures, including Industries Minister M B Patil, have consistently supported this initiative.
Minister Jarkiholi has put forth the suggestion of situating the airport between Dharwad and Belagavi—an idea that has received positive responses from the public. Locals view this as a crucial infrastructure project that enhances regional connectivity and drives economic development.
The renewed push for an international airport in Kittur is being seen as a significant step forward by the residents of Belagavi and surrounding districts, who have long sought better air connectivity. With the region’s economic growth and rising air travel needs, the call for an international airport has become increasingly urgent.
