Karnataka’s Women and Child Development Minister, Laxmi Hebbalkar, assured that the funds for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme beneficiaries would be credited to their bank accounts within a week.
Addressing the media at her Belagavi home office, the minister explained that the funds would be disbursed through Taluk Panchayats and credited to the beneficiaries’ accounts.
She acknowledged a slight delay due to her recovery from a road accident but confirmed that she had instructed officials to ensure timely payment.
“Previously, funds were disbursed from the central office in Bengaluru, but now, to decentralize the process, payments will be made through Taluk Panchayats. These will then be transferred to Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) accounts,” she stated, adding that the funds would be credited within the week.
The minister also responded to opposition criticism, saying, “While they only criticize, they later adopted similar schemes to secure election wins in other states, despite their claims that such programs would bankrupt the government.”
The delay had led to dissatisfaction among beneficiaries, which opposition leaders seized upon for political attacks.
