In a surprise operation, officials from the Karnataka and Goa Income Tax Commissionerate carried out raids on the homes and offices of prominent businessmen in Belagavi early on Tuesday. Among those targeted were Vinod Doddannavar, Pushpadant Doddannavar, industrialist Ashok Humbarwadi, and businessman Ajit Patel.
The Doddannavar family is involved in businesses spanning sugar, iron, and granite and investments in educational institutions and sugar industries in Kagawad taluk. Ashok Humbarwadi owns Ashok Iron Works Ltd., a globally recognized foundry group, while Ajit Patel is a notable businessman from the Camp area of Belagavi.
The raids, conducted by a team of Income Tax officials, were accompanied by local police officers who provided security. The authorities are currently examining documents seized during the operation.
The Income Tax Department has not yet issued an official statement regarding the raids.
