The leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, R. Ashoka, alleged on Wednesday that the Congress government in Karnataka diverted 60% of commission funds collected from contractors to organize the Gandhi Bharata program in Belagavi.
Speaking at a press conference, Ashoka claimed that law and order in the state had deteriorated and even Congress legislators were voicing concerns about the lack of development in their constituencies.
He criticized the ruling party for failing to fulfill its pre-election promise of implementing guarantee schemes without burdening citizens. Instead, the government has increased stamp duty, milk prices, water charges, electricity tariffs, bus fares, and taxes on petrol, diesel, and liquor. Ashoka warned that another hike in milk prices was reportedly in the pipeline.
“The state’s rising debt is bound to have adverse effects on the people,” he said, adding that the Congress government was “in a state of coma,” with infighting over the chief minister’s position.
Ashoka also condemned the government for its inability to maintain law and order, highlighting incidents of murder, bank robberies, rape, and cow mutilation. “The home minister is nowhere to be seen,” he said, adding that people are eager to see the end of this administration.
