The Congress’ special CWC meeting in Belagavi, marking the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi presiding over the Belgaum session, will prominently address Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s alleged insult to B.R. Ambedkar. The ‘Nav Satyagraha Baithak’ event will focus on drafting the party’s action plan for 2025 while intensifying protests over the Shah-Ambedkar controversy.
The meeting, scheduled for December 26-27, will culminate in a public gathering titled ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ rally. Congress leaders K.C. Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, and Pawan Khera confirmed that two resolutions, including one on political concerns, will be adopted during the meeting.
As part of its ongoing ‘Ambedkar Samman Saptah,’ the Congress organized marches across districts, submitting memorandums demanding Shah’s removal as Home Minister. Earlier, press conferences were held in 150 cities to highlight the alleged insult and the RSS’s purported attempts to alter the Constitution.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused the RSS of being unable to accept the Constitution and Ambedkar’s legacy, citing symbolic actions by Prime Minister Modi, such as prostrating at Parliament and the original Constitution copy, as steps foreshadowing attempts to introduce a new Constitution.
The Congress compared the Belagavi session to historic party events like the Udaipur ‘Chintan Shivir’ and Raipur AICC session, emphasizing its importance in setting the tone for the party’s agenda under the Modi government’s challenges.
