A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has finalized plans for the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Belagavi on December 26, followed by a public gathering on December 27. These events will commemorate the centenary of the historic 1924 Congress session held in the city.
As part of the celebrations, the government will release a special postage stamp and illuminate 32 kilometers of roads and 30 key circles in Belagavi, inspired by the Mysuru Dasara. The 2.1 km Congress Road will also feature a temporary Gopura installation, with special artifacts displayed along the railway track.
Plans include the development of Veera Soudha, the venue of the 1924 session, by establishing a library and installing a statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Memorial pillars will be erected at 120 locations across Karnataka visited by Gandhi.
The centenary events will also include the Kannada release of the renowned film Gandhi directed by Richard Attenborough. An art gallery depicting the 1924 Congress session and the Indian freedom movement will be set up at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi.
In addition, beautification efforts will see the installation of a bust at Gangadhar Rao Deshpande’s memorial in Kanabaragi and the inauguration of a museum to preserve the legacy of the freedom struggle.
