The Roerich Estate, located on Kanakapura Road in Bengaluru, is set to be developed as a prominent tourism destination, combining eco-tourism and cultural experiences. The Devika Rani and Roerich Estate project will be created for Rs 99.17 crore. Situated near a forest area frequently visited by elephants, the estate is poised to become a major attraction.
This project is part of a larger initiative involving 40 projects across 23 states, jointly funded by the central and state governments. The announcement was made by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, through his LinkedIn account on Friday.
KV Rajendran, Director of the Tourism Department, shared with TNIE that the ministry approved the Roerich Estate project, as well as the development of Savadatti and Yellamaggudda in Belagavi, with a combined budget of Rs 100 crore. The Roerich Estate is located about 1 km from the Metro line, making it a prime location for tourism development.
To enhance the project, the governments plan to collaborate with the Russian government, as the estate is a popular destination for Russian tourists, particularly for its historical and artistic significance. No trees will be cut down during development, with efforts focused on revitalizing the perfume garden, enhancing the gardens, improving water bodies, and restoring bridges. The 466-acre estate’s lawn and boundary have already been secured, emphasizing creating an eco-sustainable tourism site.
Tourism officials explained that the project aims to reduce congestion at existing tourist destinations, develop new attractions, and improve infrastructure in less-known locations to make them more appealing.
Regarding Savadatti, Tourism Minister HK Patil recently announced plans for its development, with a dedicated board to oversee the project. While the presentation included Someshwara-Kollur and surrounding areas, they were excluded, likely due to their inclusion in the coastal development project. Rajendran stated that the master plan for Savadatti has already been prepared by the state government, and the integration with the central grid will further strengthen the plan. The allocated central funds will be used to implement this master plan.
