The Belagavi-Bachi road, a vital route for surrounding villages, was initially estimated to need ₹15 crores for complete renovation. However, according to Sakal, recent allocations have capped funding at just ₹9 crores, raising concerns about whether this will be enough for a thorough renovation or will lead to mere patchwork fixes.
Villagers have protested this reduced funding, submitting memorandums to the PWD minister and district authorities to draw attention to the issue.
The stretch from Camp Gandhi statue to Bachi has faced years of underfunding, with allocations consistently falling short of actual requirements.
Although the single-lane section between the Gandhi statue and the Hindalga Ganapati temple could be widened, military restrictions have stalled expansion efforts. Meanwhile, the portion from the Ganapati Temple to Ambewadi Cross already has a dual carriageway, but the rest remains single-lane.
With the revised ₹9 crore budget, only a two-kilometer section up to the Sulge petrol pump is slated for doubling, leaving the remaining stretch vulnerable to minimal patchwork instead of a full overhaul. Residents and officials are now questioning whether the reduced funding will allow for a complete renovation or if the area will see only temporary fixes.
