Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan has directed officials to identify black spots and implement necessary repairs to prevent road accidents. He spoke during a district-level road safety committee meeting and the regional transport authority gathering at the DC office on Wednesday.
Roshan instructed officials from the panchayat raj engineering department and the public works department to conduct a joint survey and submit a detailed report on accident fatalities over the past three years, along with identifying frequent accident-prone black spots.
He also urged Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) officials to ensure that CCTV cameras across the city are operational and to increase the number of speed controllers. Additionally, he emphasized the need for continued awareness campaigns about helmet use for two-wheeler riders and directed RTO officials to penalize those without helmets. He also recommended canceling the licenses of auto drivers exceeding the passenger limit for school children and stopping new auto-rickshaw registrations due to the existing surplus.
Roshan further announced that auto-rickshaw meters would become mandatory next month and instructed relevant officials to hold a meeting with road transport, police, and auto-rickshaw associations. Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled advised the RTO to publicize the details of canceled driving licenses for road safety violations on social media, stressing that many accidents result from high-speed driving, which requires strict enforcement to control. DCP Shruti, PWD executive engineer SB Sobarad, and regional road transport officials were also present at the meeting.
