Minister of School Education Madhu Bangarappa launched the ‘Our School, Our Responsibility’ program by unveiling its logo at a ceremony held at Belgaum Suvarnasoudha on Wednesday, September 11. The initiative aims to enhance the quality of education in government schools and brighten students’ futures.
Bangarappa emphasized that the program seeks to improve education and societal contributions by collaborating with donors to support government schools. He highlighted the program’s goal of fostering well-rounded students through community support.
The state has around 56 lakh students in government and aided schools and about 1 crore students across all types of schools. Since last year, the SSLC examination has been administered three times, benefiting 87,000 students who have now advanced to college.
Azim Premji’s substantial donation of ₹1500 crore will support a new initiative in collaboration with the Azim Premji Foundation, providing eggs to students twice a week starting in Yadgiri on September 25. This effort aims to enhance both nutrition and education.
In addition, the government has issued recruitment orders to 45,000 guest teachers to ensure quality education from the start of the school year. Steps are also being taken to expand LKG and UKG classes in Kalyan Karnataka and eventually across the state.
Belgaum District In-Charge Minister Satish Jarakiholi praised the education minister’s efforts to improve government schools and emphasized that the success of the program depends on active participation from parents and teachers.
Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar highlighted the significance of preserving and developing government schools, noting that community involvement is crucial for the success of government initiatives.
The event also saw Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s contribution of ₹10 lakh from his salary to his former school, setting an inspiring example for others.
