The proposal for a 4.5 km long flyover in Belgaum city has officially been approved. During a recent meeting held in Delhi and chaired by Union Road Transport and National Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, the proposal received the green light.
As a result, the pace of the flyover’s construction is expected to pick up. A detailed action plan, with an estimated budget of ₹4,500 crores, has been submitted for the project. The flyover was a key topic during Minister Gadkari’s visit to Belgaum, and the district administration subsequently forwarded the proposal to the central government.
On August 13, a crucial meeting took place in Delhi with Minister Gadkari, Karnataka’s PWD Minister, and District In-charge Minister Satish Jarakiholi, along with officials from the National Highways and Public Works Department. They engaged in extensive discussions regarding the flyover proposal.
Minister Gadkari stressed the importance of completing other critical infrastructure projects, including the Belgaum-Sankeshwar Six-Lane Road, the Ring Road, and the Halaga-Macche Bypass, within the designated timelines.
He also instructed the state National Highways authorities to take the necessary steps to advance the flyover project. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the city, complemented by ongoing projects such as the circular road, bypass, and six-lane road along the Belgaum-Sankeshwar route. A site survey for the flyover has already been completed, and the proposal has been approved by the National Highways Authority.
The flyover will start from National Highway (NH-48), passing through Sankam Hotel, Ashoka Circle, RTO Circle, and extending to Kittur Chennamma Circle. To ensure smooth vehicular flow, “rotaries” will be constructed at Ashoka Circle and Kittur Chennamma Circle.
Additionally, ramps will be built near the Central Bus Stand (CBS) to connect with the RTO and Mahantesh Nagar Road. Similarly, the RTO Circle will feature three ramps linking Rani Chennamma Circle, Shri Krishna Devaraya Circle (Kolhapur Circle), and the bus station. A proposed service road will also connect Belgaum Airport via a Road Over Bridge (ROB).
