The Belgaum district administration is actively relocating families affected by floods across multiple taluks such as Athani, Nippani, Chikodi, Gokak, and Raibag to shelter centers. There has been a slight relief for the administration with reduced rainfall observed in Maharashtra and the catchment areas of Belgaum rivers on Sunday.
Due to continuous rainfall, floodwaters inundated numerous villages along the Krishna, Doodhganga, Vedaganga, Ghataprabha, Malaprabha, and Hiranyakeshi rivers. Evacuation efforts in these villages have intensified.
Smaller bridges over tributaries of the Krishna have also been submerged, prompting residents to flee to safer locations with their belongings. In Mudalagi taluk, the Masaguppi bridge was flooded, affecting over 250 houses in the village. More than 600 people have been relocated to a care center.
The old town area of Hunshyal PY village was also flooded, leading to the establishment of a care center at the government Senior Primary School. Out of the village’s 60 families, 30 have been accommodated in the care center.
According to the district administration, over 800 individuals from 300 families in 40 villages along the Krishna River and its tributaries have been rescued. More than 40 care centers have been set up to accommodate them.
The inflow of the Malaprabha River has significantly increased. The administration of Savadatti taluk has issued alerts to villages downstream of the reservoir, including Munavalli, Teggihal, and Ramdurg.
Several temples located on riverbanks have been submerged due to the floods. These include the Veerbhadreshwara temple affiliated with Shrishail Peetha in Yadur, the Holemma Devi temple in Badakundri village of Hukkeri taluk, and the Jade Siddheshwarmath temple in Sundholi submerged by the Ghataprabha River.
