Karnataka is currently experiencing heavy monsoon rains following a period of water scarcity. Belgaum district, in particular, is facing not only intense monsoon conditions but also a surge in snake sightings, including venomous species. These snakes have been seen in residential areas and even in temples, likely seeking shelter and warmth due to the rain.
Recently, a snake was discovered at the residence of Suresh Sanadi in Sambargi village and safely captured by Vishwa Bamane, a reptile rescuer from Salagare village, Maharashtra. Another report mentions the capture of a 6-foot-long cobra in the same locality. Villagers across the district are alarmed by these sightings and are seeking assistance from reptile rescuers. Once rescued, the snakes are relocated to Salagara forest in Maharashtra.
Local18 shared a video depicting rescuers capturing several snakes from the area. The footage shows the reptiles being caught using a long, stick-like metal tool with a curved end.
In May, Local18 covered an incident involving a snake catcher from Hunchanatti village in Belgaum. The catcher, identified as Shahid, was bitten by a snake he had captured in his house just before releasing it into the wild.
Despite being bitten, he captured the snake once more, placing it in a plastic jar, and promptly sought medical attention at a hospital. He informed the hospital staff that he was uncertain about the snake’s species and hoped that bringing it in would assist them in providing appropriate treatment.
