Drivers in the Jamboti area are urging the forest department to promptly clear hazardous trees that are blocking traffic on both sides of the Jamboti-Khanapur state highway. This highway is crucial for interstate traffic in Khanapur taluka, serving as a major route between Goa and Karnataka. Much of the road traverses forested areas where trees and bamboo clusters have encroached onto the road, yet both the Forest Department and Public Works Department have overlooked their removal.
From June to October, heavy rains and strong winds persist in the region. During this monsoon period, the uprooting of old trees and snapping of branches frequently block traffic on the road, causing significant challenges for motorists and residents. Moreover, leaning old trees pose a risk of falling onto moving vehicles due to the stormy weather. Particularly hazardous spots include the Shankarpeth ascent near Malprabha river and Vadgaon Phata on the Vijayanagar-Gavliwadya road, endangering the lives of drivers.
The concern over hazardous trees along the Jamboti-Khanapur road intensified following a recent tragedy where two young individuals lost their lives near Belgundi after a tree fell on their moving two-wheeler. Citizens and motorists in the Jamboti area are urging senior officials of the Forest Department and Public Works Department to promptly eliminate these dangerous trees from the highway to ensure road safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.
