The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has faced obstacles in acquiring 155 acres of land necessary for the new Belgaum-Dharwad railway line passing through Kittur. In a recent assessment, Shettar instructed the district administration to organize a meeting with pertinent officials to identify and resolve the hurdles in land acquisition.
Officials from KIADB have reported that the Belgaum-Dharwad railway project requires a total of 644 acres of land. However, they are encountering substantial difficulties in acquiring 155 acres in Belgaum district. Resistance from farmers in Konduskoppa, Desur, and three other villages is a major obstacle. Furthermore, delays are exacerbated by the railway authorities’ insistence on maintaining the current project alignment without modifications.
Out of the total 600 acres needed for the railway line, 322 acres have been successfully acquired from Dharwad to Hirebagewadi. The remaining 155 acres, which includes land near Belgaum in Kuruvinakoppa, still needs to be acquired.
MP Shettar emphasized the need for prompt action, declaring, “A meeting must be convened regarding the unresolved land acquisition, and a swift resolution must be achieved.”
