Belgaum Cantonment Board Chief Executive Officer K Anand, aged 40 and originally from Tamil Nadu, took his own life at his government residence in Belgaum. An officer of the 2015 batch of the Indian Defence Estate Service, he had been stationed in Belgaum for about one and a half years.
Tragically, Anand’s suicide, which occurred on the morning of November 25, was preceded by a note indicating substantial losses incurred in online gaming. His demise followed a recent CBI raid on his residence and office, focusing on allegations of illegal constructions, encroachments, and illicit appointments within the cantonment board.
CBI officers, both from Delhi and Bengaluru, executed the raid after multiple complaints of irregularities were made by Cleton Coylo against Anand and other personnel. Documents were confiscated during the operation, shedding light on the ongoing investigation.
In the poignant suicide note, Anand expressed apologies to his parents for not being able to care for them adequately. He also revealed the burden of unmanageable debts as a factor that led him to take such a tragic step.
