A tragic incident occurred at Shiroda Velagar beach in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra on Friday evening, where strong waves swept away eight tourists from two families in Belagavi district.
The group, hailing from Londa in Khanapur taluk, had gone for a picnic. Around 5.45 pm, while they were forming a human chain in the water, a powerful wave pulled them into the sea.
Isra Imran Kittur (17) was rescued, while the bodies of Farheen Imran Kittur (36) and Ibad Imran Kittur (13), both residents of Londa, along with Farhan Mohammad Maniyar (25) of Kudal, were recovered.
Search operations are underway to trace the four others still missing. Shiroda police have taken up the investigation.
