A 72-year-old man from Benakanahalli village has reportedly died due to suspected COVID-related complications in Belagavi.
He had developed flu-like symptoms and was initially taken to a private hospital four days ago. Doctors later referred him to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences, where he was admitted to the COVID ward on May 26. He passed away in the early hours of May 29.
Health department officials confirmed that the cremation was carried out following COVID protocols in the presence of his relatives.
This was the district’s second confirmed COVID case.
The first case—a pregnant woman—remains under treatment at a private hospital and is recovering, according to I.P. Gadad, District Health and Family Welfare Officer.
