Home Minister G Parameshwara on Wednesday announced that more than 6,000 police personnel, including senior officials, will be deployed to maintain security and law and order during the winter session of the state legislature at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha from December 8 to 19.
He chaired a review meeting with the Police Commissioners of Belagavi and Hubballi-Dharwad, along with Superintendents of Police from districts under the Northern Range, to assess preparedness. Parameshwara said security measures are being framed considering previous experiences to avoid any untoward incidents. Protests from farmers, students, Kannada organizations, and MES groups are anticipated, and permissions will be processed according to protocol. He also noted that the government has addressed sugarcane pricing issues raised by farmers and is working on filling vacancies across various departments.
The minister said 545 police sub-inspector posts have already been filled, and trainees are undergoing training. Recruitment for 402 more sub-inspectors is in progress, and another 600 posts will be announced soon. Out of 15,000 vacant constable posts, 3,600 will be filled shortly. Arrangements for barracks, accommodation, and food for deployed personnel will be made. The district administration has also held discussions on VVIP movement and traffic management.
Parameshwara declined to comment on speculation about the chief minister’s post or cabinet expansion and avoided reacting to former minister Rajanna’s demand for a Dalit chief minister if leadership changes occur.
