A 56-year-old man from Belagavi, Murgappa Ningappa Kumar, was arrested for impersonating a Karnataka Lokayukta police officer and threatening government officials, authorities reported on Sunday.
Kumar, who has a history of similar crimes, was dismissed from his position as a constable years ago and has several cases against him. Investigations revealed that he had previously been arrested for posing as a Lokayukta officer.
A new case was filed after Lokayukta DySP Basavaraj R Magadam lodged a complaint, alleging that Kumar had been making calls to government officials, claiming to be a Lokayukta policeman, and threatening them with disproportionate assets (DA) charges. Kumar is also said to have demanded money from the officials.
The police are now investigating the extent of Kumar’s illegal earnings.
