In one of the city’s biggest health compliance drives, the District Health & Family Welfare Department, with support from the Drug Control Department, Pollution Control Board, and City Corporation, raided 30 skin clinics and beauty parlours on August 12 following complaints of unsafe medical procedures.
The inspections revealed widespread violations. Ten centres were functioning without mandatory Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (KPME) registration and had unqualified staff performing advanced treatments such as laser therapy and hair transplants. Seven outlets lacked rate charts, biomedical waste management, or valid trade licenses, while another seven did not display proper name boards. Six establishments remained shut during inspection.
The raids, led by District Health Officer Dr. Eshwar Gadadi under the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan, covered areas including College Road, Goaves, Sadashiv Nagar, Hanuman Nagar, Tilakwadi, Camp, and Raviwar Peth. Some centres were flagged for “quackery,” conducting procedures beyond their expertise and putting clients at risk.
Officials have sealed 10 parlours and issued notices to 20 others, warning of further legal action, including seizure of equipment. The DC stressed that unqualified treatments could cause serious complications, even death, and said evidence will be presented before the KPME court.
Authorities have urged citizens to check both the clinic’s registration and the doctor’s credentials before undergoing any skin-related treatment.
