A 28-year-old man from Gokak in Belagavi district was found dead near the railway track in Murudeshwar on Sunday night, police said on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Prasad Chandrakant Koli.
According to police, a local resident discovered the body around 11 pm while walking near the railway station area and speaking on the phone. He noticed the man hanging from a cashew tree with a nylon rope near the railway track and alerted the authorities.
Based on the complaint, Murudeshwar police have registered a case of unnatural death. Officials said the incident likely took place between 9 pm and 11 pm on January 4 behind Prarthana Hotel, about 2 km from the Murudeshwar police station.
