A 24-year-old MBA intern was found dead at her paying guest (PG) accommodation in Nehru Nagar, Belagavi, police confirmed on Wednesday.
The incident is currently under investigation, with forensic analysis being carried out to determine the circumstances surrounding her death. Authorities have not yet revealed whether a suicide note was found or what may have led to the incident.
Belagavi Police Commissioner Martin Marbaniang stated that the intern’s mother had lodged a complaint reporting that her daughter had allegedly died by suicide, by hanging. “We’ve registered a case and a postmortem is being conducted. Seven items have been seized for forensic examination,” he said.
According to police, the woman had relocated to Belagavi three months ago in pursuit of a job and was interning at a reputed company. On Tuesday evening, she returned to her PG after work, briefly interacted with her roommate, and went to her room. CCTV footage from the PG captured this.
Later that night, she was found hanging from the ceiling fan, and authorities were immediately alerted. Her body has been sent for a postmortem.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police awaiting the results of forensic tests on the seized items.
