Chief Minister Siddaramaiah unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at advancing the development of North Karnataka on December 15. Among these announcements was the launch of a comprehensive action plan to enhance the region’s prominent tourist destinations and the establishment of a 2,000-acre industrial estate in close proximity to Belgaum.
The chief minister, addressing the press before the conclusion of the 10-day winter session of the state legislature in Belgaum, disclosed plans for a foundry cluster to be developed on 500 acres of land near Belgaum.
Similarly, an FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) cluster is slated to be established in Dharwad district, with the aim of creating 2,400 jobs. Furthermore, a manufacturing cluster is in the works on 1,500 acres of land in Vijayapura, with a focus on promoting cotton-based industries in the cotton hub of Raichur.
Additionally, the chief minister announced the transformation of the Water and Land Management Institute (Walmi) in Dharwad into a Center of Excellence for Water Management. This envisioned Center will not only educate individuals on water-related matters but also raise awareness about effective techniques for managing soil salinity, he emphasized.
The strategic move to develop underdeveloped areas in North Karnataka is anticipated to contribute to an overall increase in the State’s GDP, fostering positive growth for Karnataka.
