Choosing compassion in the face of tragedy, a family in Karnataka released a snake into the wild just days after it fatally bit their 10-year-old son.
On May 31, Amit Gurulinga Sindhur was bitten by a snake while sleeping at his home in Kakamari village, Belagavi district. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he could not survive.
The snake remained inside the house for three days following the incident.
After performing the boy’s final rites, the grieving family chose not to harm the reptile. Instead, they called a snake conservationist who safely captured it. The snake was later released into a forest near Telsang village in Athani taluk.
The family’s act of forgiveness was praised by village elder Duradundappa Kakamari and other residents.
