In the early hours of Friday, officials from the Belgaum excise department successfully intercepted and seized illicit liquor valued at Rs 25 lakh, which had been smuggled from neighboring Goa to Belgaum. The police managed to apprehend Subodh Mahato, a 49-year-old from Bihar, in connection with the unlawful transportation of the liquor.
Amidst the ongoing preparations for the session in Belgaum, the illegal influx of liquor from Goa to Belgaum has become a cause for concern. Excise officers conducted a raid on a lorry arriving from Goa, leading to the discovery of 90 boxes of Goan liquor with a market value of Rs 25 lakh.
Additionally, a vehicle with an estimated worth of Rs 15 lakh was seized during the operation. The collaborative efforts of Additional Excise Commissioner Y Manjunath, Deputy Commissioner Vanajakshi M, Excise Superintendent Vijay Kumar Hiremath, and others played a key role in the success of the operation.
